slide begins gushing down a street. christie smith is live in daly city with all the dough tails. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, jon. you know, the water flow has stopped this morning, but what an absolute mess out here in daly city this morning with mud and water. you can see this right here up the hill, though, the mud is actually measured in feet. crews are out here with vacuum trucks this morning and front loaders trying to clean it all up. higher up there is actually a slide on the hillside. you can see what happened after that water main break overnight on luzanne avenue. one firefighter told me there is a water storage facility up the hill but whether it's tied to this is still unclear. cars completely submerged past their tires in mud this morning. eight homes evacuated. people getting help from the red cross. 100 homes without water. what's going to happen for the rest of the afternoon is cleanup. still don't know what caused this all. jon, back to you. >> all right, tough going out there. thank you very much. we'll check in right now for a weather forecast. w

. we can tell you people all over the bay area bracing some some serious rain. in daly city, crews still doing final preps to shore up the area and make sure this thing holds. early tuesday morning a pipe from a water storage tank burst, causing a huge mud slide. we step back and look at how much rain daly city and the rest of the bay area is going to get so let's turn things over to meteorologist christina loren. >> between the two systems, i think daly city could see over an inch and a quarter so a lot of rain headed our way the next 72 hours. you can see right now we've got steady rainfall up and down the peninsula. also starting to see the showers push into the south bay. san jose getting wet. also embedded within the green, we have these little pop-up thunderstorms from time to time. we have one right other clayton right now. that's going to be the case as we head throughout the day today. gusty winds and the bulk of the moisture doesn't arrive until the core of low pressure crosses over us and that will happen at 7:00 p.m. tonight. much heavier rainfall on the way as we head

continue to following breaking news all morning long for you. a neighborhood in daly city flooded out this morning, prompting a number of families to evacuate. christie smith just arrived on scene and has the latest information for us. any word where that water is even coming from? >> reporter: well, that's a good question. we definitely know that it's coming from up the hill. we're here in daly city and this is where the water is flowing down the hill and about as far as we can go because police are stopping us from going any further. not just water, but a huge flow of mud. there is apparently some sort of reservoir or water storage facility up the hill that's having a problem and it's tied to some sort of main break in the area. that according to a man that i just got off the phone with, with the water district here in daly city. this is a hillside park neighborhood where evacuations are under way. i spoke with one officer here. he's from the broadmoor police department. he said he was called in about 4:30 this morning to help with traffic control. his boots this morning completely

laura garcia-cannon. >> i'm jon kelley. residents in daly city, residents getting through a big-time mess of mud. lots to be cleaned up after a water main break cause as massive landslide there. clogging streets and cars with several inches of mud and with rain on the way. those cleanup efforts now getting kicked into overdrive. christie smith is live in daly city and she has the latest. she was there yesterday. how do things com look compared to that craziness? >> reporter: good morning to you. you know, i have to say that the streets are cleaned up pretty well where there was mud tall way up to the wheel well of some tires. we are at the top of the hill. had is actually hillside park. what i want to show you is over here, steve can pan over a little patch of grass. if you can pan over you can see what is left here is mud. that's a result of the slide yesterday. there is concern that rain could cause additional problems over the next couple of days after a mud slide. oar night yesterday. that was caused when a water brain broke sending 45,000 gallons of water, mud and down the hill
